Triconex Company profile
Triconex is a brand under Schneider Electric that focuses on industrial automation safety systems. It was founded in 1984 by two engineers in Irvine, California, the United States. In its early days, it was dedicated to providing high-integrity safety systems for the process industry. In 1997, Triconex was acquired by the British Invensys Group and became part of its Process Systems division. In 2014, with Schneider Electric's acquisition of Invensys, Triconex was integrated into Schneider Electric and became an important part of its industrial automation business unit.
In terms of technology, Triconex adopts the Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) fault-tolerant control technology. It processes data through three independent and parallel processing channels and ensures the reliability and stability of the system by means of a two-out-of-three logic voting method. Even if one channel fails, the other two channels can seamlessly take over the work. At the same time, all its components are hermetically installed using Surface Mount Technology (SMT), which endows them with excellent anti-corrosion capabilities and enables them to adapt to harsh industrial environments.
In addition, Triconex supports remote and distributed I/O, is able to expand multiple sets of safety control systems, and leverages technologies such as HDLC (High-Level Data Link Control) and AISC (Advanced Industrial Safety Controller) to improve the processing speed of the controller, optimize the I/O response time, and enhance the overall response capability.
Based on the above technical advantages, Triconex has been widely applied in many industries such as petroleum, chemical engineering, natural gas, electric power, rail transit, and nuclear industry. It is often used in key scenarios such as the Emergency Shutdown System (ESD), steam turbine control, gas turbine control, compressor anti-surge control, offshore oil platforms, and Fire and Gas Monitoring and Protection (F&G).
Triconex, a brand of Schneider Electric, specializes in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) with high integrity and availability. It has the following main types of systems:
Tricon Systems:
Tricon is the core product of Triconex and is used in a wide variety of industrial control and safety application scenarios. It has a triple redundant architecture (TMR) that ensures high reliability and availability.
Trident System:
Trident is a modular safety instrumented system for applications requiring high reliability and performance. It is also designed on a triple redundant architecture.
Tricon CX:
The Tricon CX is the latest generation of the Tricon family, featuring higher performance, a more compact design, and enhanced network integration capabilities.
A Tricon controller can include a maximum of 15 chassis, enclosures, and any appropriate combination of input, output, communications, interface, and hot spare modules.
The following three types of enclosures are available: Main, Expansion, and RXM.
-The Main C hassis contains Ma in Processor modules and I/O modules. 8110 mainframe racks hold up to six slot groups of I/O modules and Model 8120E Enhanced Performance mainframe racks hold up to five groups of input/output modules. Modules in the Input/Output Chassis are connected via I/O Expansion Bus ports are triple RS-485 bi-directional communication ports.
-Expansion Chassis (Chassis 2 through 15) can accommodate up to eight I/O module slots and HART interface modules. The Expansion Chassis connects to a triple RS-485 bi-directional communication port unit in the Main Chassis in the following manner. Generally, the final Expansion Chassis must not be more than 30 meters (100 feet) chassis or RXM chassis away from the Main Chassis.
-An RXM C chassis contains one master or remote RXM module set and six slot-set I/O modules. the RXM chassis enables the system to expand to remote locations up to 7.5 using SRXM modules up to 12 kilometers from the main chassis.

Triconex Product Model Recommendations
Control Modules
Tricon CX: It is the latest product for safety control under Schneider Electric. It adopts a typical triple-redundancy TMR structure design, integrating the advantages of the Tricon system and the Trident system. It has been certified by TÜV Rheinland and can be used in safety scenarios up to SIL3 at the highest level. It has high safety and fault tolerance capabilities. It supports the HART communication protocol and functions such as adding racks, cards, relevant configurations, and downloading programs online.
JWA600-24: It supports switching different control programs through reset operations, and is suitable for industrial systems that require dynamic adjustment of logic or status. It has a built-in redundancy design and may adopt a Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) architecture to enhance the system's fault tolerance ability. It supports integration with various sensors, actuators, and upper computer systems, and is compatible with communication protocols such as Modbus and PROFIBUS.
Input/Output Modules
DI 3506X: It is a digital input interface board that provides multiple digital input channels and is used to receive digital signals from external devices or sensors. It has the characteristics of high reliability, good real-time performance, support for multiple communication interfaces, and may have explosion-proof design and integrated safety functions. It has a certain degree of programmability to adapt to different control logic and requirements.
