Schneider

In 1968, Richard E. Morley led a core team of engineers to establish Bedford Associates. They invented the world's first Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and subsequently founded the Modicon company. The name "Modicon" originated from "Modular Digital Controller". In 1969, Modicon launched the "084" PLC. In 1973, the "084" was upgraded to the "184". In 1975, the "284" with microprocessor and distributed control, as well as the "384", the first PLC with digital process algorithms for continuous control, were introduced. In 1979, Modicon invented Modbus, the first industrial communication network, which later became an industry standard. In 1997, Modicon became the fourth major brand of Schneider Electric. In 2003, the Modicon Quantum PAC became the first controller to provide the function of an embedded web server. In 2007, the first integrated PAC, the Modicon M340, was launched.
