The Triconex 3503E is a triple modular redundant (TMR) digital input module that belongs to the I/O module family of the Tricon control system. It is primarily used to collect discrete digital signals of 24VAC/VDC level in industrial field environments, and features core capabilities such as self-testing, channel isolation, and high fault tolerance. It is suitable for safety-critical control scenarios including petrochemical, nuclear power, and energy industries.
With a redundant architecture that enables independent signal acquisition via three channels and data voting at the main processor end, the module ensures the integrity and reliability of signal collection. Meanwhile, it supports online replacement of hot standby modules, which can minimize system downtime for maintenance to the greatest extent and meet the stringent requirements of industrial control systems for safety and availability.

Technical Parameters
Electrical Input Parameters
The module has a rated input voltage of 24VAC/VDC and an operating voltage range of 20–42.5VAC/VDC, with a maximum input voltage of 42.5VAC/VDC. Its switch threshold for off-to-on transition is >18VAC/VDC, while the on-to-off switch threshold is <6VAC/VDC. The nominal on-state current is 6–9mA, with a typical hysteresis voltage of 4VAC/VDC and input delays of <8ms (off-to-on) and <15ms (on-to-off). At rated voltage, the on-state power consumption per channel is 0.5W, rising to 1.5W at maximum voltage, and the input impedance is >1.25KΩ.
Module Structure and Channel Configuration
Classified as a TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) module, it provides 32 input points grouped into 4 sets of 8 points sharing a common ground. The channel-to-system isolation level reaches 1500VDC, and it features mechanical keying to prevent incorrect insertion into incompatible slots. An independent external terminal panel (ETP) and dedicated cables are required for connection.
Diagnostic and Redundancy Features
It supports “Stuck-On” fault detection to verify the circuit’s ability to identify off states. Each input point is equipped with a status indicator, and module-level indicators include PASS (self-test passed), FAULT (channel fault), and ACTIVE (module in operation). The module has high fault tolerance—single-channel failures do not affect overall operation, and safety functions can be maintained with a single fault present. It also supports hot standby module configuration, allowing faulty modules to be replaced online without interrupting system operation.
