GE EPSCPE100-ABAC PACSystems RSTi-EP CPE100 Standalone Controller

The EPSCPE100-ABAC is a controller under Emerson PACSystems RSTi-EP series, supporting communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-485, and PROFINET IO. Specific functions of this product are version-dependent; for example, the COMMREQ function requires a firmware version of 9.35 (E8VE) or higher. This particular firmware version (9.35 E8VE) addresses specific issues, and the firmware upgrade strategy varies based on the existing version. It's important to note that the product has certain functional limitations, such as not supporting AUP files for its Ethernet interfaces. Users should pay attention to relevant precautions during operation.

EPSCPE100-ABAC is a controller in the PACSystems RSTi-EP series under Emerson. It has specific functions and application scenarios in the field of industrial automation control.

Functional Features of EPSCPE100-ABAC

Communication Function Support: It supports multiple communication methods such as RS-232 and RS-485. The RS-485 port has two operating modes: 2-Wire and 4-Wire, which can meet data transmission requirements between different devices. It also supports PROFINET IO functionality, but with version requirements—the minimum version of EPSCPE100 must be 9.35, providing a foundation for its application in industrial Ethernet communication.

Specific Functions and Version Correlation: The COMMREQ function for remotely obtaining HART device information requires the minimum version of the EPSCPE100 standalone controller to be 9.35. It supports the OPC UA Server Logging function, but this requires the firmware version of PACSystems EPXCPE CPUs to be 10.10 or higher, and it must be used with PAC Machine Edition 9.80 SIM 5 or higher to realize the function.

Firmware Version and Upgrade Strategy

Firmware Version Information: The corresponding firmware version is 9.35 (E8VE), which resolves the issue with case number 00485554. There are multiple subsequent firmware versions, such as 10.06 (EET3) and 10.10 (EG67), with each version featuring corresponding functional improvements and bug fixes.

Upgrade Strategy: To upgrade to firmware version 10.10, for EPSCPE100 controllers with a firmware version lower than v9.35 (E8VE), the upgrade needs to be performed in two steps. The first step is to install the firmware update kit that upgrades the controller to firmware version v9.35 (E8VE). If the firmware version of the EPSCPE100 controller is v9.62 (EAAL) or higher, it can be directly upgraded to v10.06 (EET3) or higher versions.

Application Limitations and Precautions

Functional Limitations:
  • It does not support Advanced User Parameter (AUP) files for its Embedded Ethernet interfaces.
  • Due to the characteristics of its internal supercapacitor, it does not support Service Requests 56 & 57 (Logic Driven Read/Write to Flash). If such service requests are executed, the ENO output of the service request function block will return no power flow.
  • It does not support the RDSD (Removable Data Storage Device) function, and its USB port and micro SD card slot are inactive in the current state.
Communication Limitations:
  • There may be communication issues under certain conditions. For example, when both LAN 1 and LAN 2 are configured with gateways, SRTP and Modbus TCP Client COMMREQs may require multiple TCP retries to establish a connection.
  • In specific scenarios (e.g., when the User Logic is sufficiently large and a COMMREQ is issued during the first logic scan), Ethernet COMMREQs may encounter a race condition between the CPU's run/stop state judgment and the logic-driven COMMREQ issuance, causing the COMMREQ to be aborted before transmission.

Operational Precautions:

  • During firmware upgrades, several precautions must be observed: Do not power off or reset the controller during the upgrade process; different browsers have minimum version requirements for firmware updates.
  • To recover CPE100/115 from STOP-HALT mode, refer to specific documents (for CPE100, refer to Section 9 of GFK-3012; for CPE115, refer to Section 9 of GFK-3039).
  • During operation, there are requirements for certain parameter settings. For instance, when setting the Watchdog timer: If CPE100/115 is exposed to maximum Ethernet traffic and the rate of Ethernet packets received by the controller exceeds 4000 packets/sec, it is strongly recommended to increase the WDT timeout to 500ms.
