Bently Nevada 165335-01 990 Vibration Transmitter is a two-wire, loop-powered device mainly intended for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of centrifugal air compressors, small pumps, motors, or fans. It receives input from a 3300 NSv proximity probe and its matching extension cable (with 5m and 7m system length options), converts the signal into appropriate peak-to-peak vibration amplitude in engineering units, and outputs it as a 4-20mA industry-standard signal to mechanical control systems for mechanical protection alarms and logic control.
DATA SHEET
Key Features
Integrates a Proximitor sensor, eliminating the need for external units.
Non-isolated "PROX OUT" and "COM" terminals, along with a coaxial connector, provide dynamic vibration and gap voltage signal outputs for diagnostic purposes.
Non-interactive zero and span potentiometers under the transmitter label support loop adjustment.
Test input pins allow quick verification of loop signal output using a function generator as the input.
The "Not OK/Signal Defeat" circuit prevents high output or false alarms caused by proximity probe failures or loose connections.
Standard mounting options include DIN rail clips or bulkhead mounting screws, simplifying installation.
Potted construction, suitable for high-humidity environments (up to 100% condensation).
Compatible with 3300 NSv proximity probes, enabling sensor installation in small spaces with minimal clearance, typically used in centrifugal air compressors.

Mechanical Parameters
Vibration transmitters have various limitations compared to continuous vibration monitoring systems. In some applications, they are practical solutions for measuring general vibration levels and valuable tools for overall vibration trend analysis. However, they have limited capability in using vibration signals for mechanical diagnostics and cannot capture dynamic vibration signals for diagnosis when vibration alarms occur. Although transmitters can perform peak vibration alarms and non-OK checks, the 4-20mA signal cannot be used to determine vibration phase, nor can monitoring functions such as gap alarms, phase alarms, timed OK channel failures, dangerous bypasses, and trip multiplication be utilized. Additionally, PLCs connected to vibration transmitters can only provide peak-to-peak trend data, which is not suitable for plant-wide diagnostic systems such as System 1 or Rule Paks.
The "Prox Out" coaxial connector of the 990 vibration transmitter provides non-isolated dynamic sensor signals for mechanical diagnostics. It can be directly connected to battery-powered or isolated test equipment to diagnose mechanical problems. However, since the "PROX OUT" signal is not isolated from the 4-20mA loop signal, it is recommended to use an interface for signal isolation. The 990/991 test adapter can adjust the "PROX OUT" signal of the 990 transmitter to make it suitable for AC-powered test equipment. It can also invert and isolate the sensor signal of the 990, making it suitable for devices such as oscilloscopes and analyzers while maintaining industry-standard signal polarity. It is strongly recommended to use this test adapter in all applications to maintain isolation between test equipment and loop signals and ensure that the installation maintains mechanical protection integrity.
