The FBM233 P0926GX is a redundant Field Device System Integrator (FDSI) module developed by Foxboro, a subsidiary of Schneider Electric. It provides an Ethernet interface between single- or dual-port field I/O devices and the Foxboro Evo system.
Each FBM233 P0926GX module features a 10/100Mbps copper Ethernet connection with an RJ-45 connector on the front panel for connecting to dual-port Ethernet devices. It can be linked to an Ethernet switch or hub to communicate with 1 to 64 external devices.
A pair of modules can provide redundancy at the Field Bus Module (FBM) level: one functions as the Master module, and the other as the Tracker. Input points of the control station are updated from device inputs received via the network connected to the Master module. Device output points are written jointly by both the Master and Tracker modules according to the I/O driver. Role switching occurs automatically when the I/O driver detects issues (e.g., loss of any device heartbeat), and users can also manually switch roles via the SMDH at any time.
DATA SHEET
Features
Redundant 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps Ethernet network transmission rates for data exchange with field devices.
Capable of communicating with up to 64 field devices.
I/O software drivers can be downloaded from the available protocol library.
Supports up to 2000 DCI block connections.
Integrates field device data into the Foxboro Evo control database via Ethernet connectivity.
Field-installable, suitable for G3-grade (harsh) environments.
I/O Drivers
The FBM233 is a universal Ethernet hardware module that can be loaded with different software drivers. These drivers configure the FBM to recognize the specific protocols used by the devices. Some of these software drivers are standard products, and custom drivers can also be developed to meet specific requirements. These drivers are dynamically downloaded into the FBM233 via software code specifically designed to interface with third-party device protocols. The configuration procedures and software requirements for each driver vary depending on the devices to be integrated into the system.
Ethernet Link Setup
Data communication between the FBM233 and field devices is carried out via the RJ-45 connector on the front of the FBM233 module. The FBM233 connects to an Ethernet switch or hub to communicate with 1 external device or up to 64 external devices (refer to "Ethernet Switches for FBM233" on page 7).
Configuration Procedures
FDSI Configuration Program: Used to set up FBM233 ports and XML-based device configuration files.
Port Configuration Program: Allows easy setup of communication parameters for each port (e.g., Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), IP address).
Device Configuration Program: Not required for all devices; when needed, it configures device-specific and point-specific items (e.g., scan rate, data addresses to be transmitted, and the amount of data to be transmitted in a single transaction).
Operation
Each pair of FBM233 modules can access up to 64 devices for reading or writing data.
From the Foxboro Evo control station connected to the FBM233, up to 2000 Distributed Control Interface (DCI) data connections can be established to read or write data.
The supported data types are determined by the specific drivers loaded on the FBM233. These drivers convert data into the following DCI data types:
Analog input or output values (integer or IEEE single-precision floating point)
Single digital input or output values
Multiple (packed) digital input or output values (up to 32 digital points per group, packed by connection)
Therefore, the Foxboro Evo control station using the FBM233 can access up to 2000 analog I/O values, or up to 64,000 digital I/O values, or a combination of digital and analog values. The fastest data access frequency from the control station to the FBM233 is 500 ms, with performance depending on each device type and the data layout within the devices.
The FBM233 collects the required data from the devices, performs necessary conversions, and then stores the converted data in its database for integration into the Foxboro Evo plant management functions and operator displays. Data can also be written from the Foxboro Evo system to individual devices.
