Bently Nevada 172103-01 is the RTD/Isolated Tip Thermocouple (TC) Input/Output (I/O) Module with internal terminations for the 3500/65 16-Channel Temperature Monitor. The monitor is primarily used to provide 16 channels of temperature monitoring, accepting temperature inputs from Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) and isolated tip thermocouples (TCs), conditioning these inputs, and comparing them against user-programmable alarm setpoints.

Technical Parameters

(1) Input Characteristics

  • Signal Type: Accepts 1 to 16 RTD or isolated tip TC transducer signals.
  • Input Impedance: Greater than 1 MΩ for each lead input. 

(2) Supported Transducer Types and Measurement Ranges

  • Thermocouples (TC)
    • Type E: -100°C to +1000°C (-148°F to +1832°F).
    • Type J: 0°C to +760°C (32°F to +1400°F).
    • Type K: 0°C to +1370°C (32°F to +2498°F).
    • Type T: -160°C to +400°C (-256°F to +752°F). 
  • Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD)
    • 100 Ω 3-wire and 4-wire platinum RTD (α=0.00385): -200°C to +850°C (-328°F to +1562°F). This is the worldwide industrial standard and recommended for all applications.
    • 100 Ω 3-wire and 4-wire platinum RTD (α=0.00392): -200°C to +700°C (-328°F to +1292°F).
    • 120 Ω 3-wire and 4-wire nickel RTD: -80°C to +260°C (-112°F to +500°F).
    • 10 Ω 3-wire and 4-wire copper RTD: -100°C to +260°C (-148°F to +500°F). 

(3) Output Characteristics

  • Front Panel LEDs
    • OK LED: Indicates the 3500/65 is operating properly.
    • TX/RX LED: Indicates the 3500/65 is communicating with other modules in the 3500 rack.
    • Bypass LED: Indicates the 3500/65 monitor is in Bypass Mode. 
  • RTD Current Source Value: 913 ± 7 µA @ 25°C per transducer (1 supply for 4-wire RTD and 2 supplies for 3-wire). 

(4) Signal Conditioning

  • Resolution: 1°C or 1°F.
  • Accuracy
    • Internal Termination: ±3°C at +25°C (±5.4°F at +77°F) for Bulkhead Rack.
    • External Termination: ±3°C at +25°C (±5.4°F at +77°F) for both Bulkhead and Standard Racks; ±2°C at +25°C (±3.6°F at +77°F) for Cold Junction Compensation Sensor (used for TC measurements). 

(5) Alarm Settings

  • Alarm Setpoints: Alert and Danger setpoints are software-programmable, adjustable from 0 to 100% of full-scale for each measured value. If the full-scale range exceeds the sensor range, the software limits the setpoint to the sensor’s range. Alarm accuracy is within 0.13% of the desired value. Both under- and over-alarm setpoints are supported. 
  • Alarm Time Delays:
    • Alert Delay: 1 to 60 seconds in 1-second increments.
    • Danger Delay: 1 to 60 seconds in 0.5-second increments. 

(6) Environmental Limits

  • Operating Temperature: -30°C to +65°C (-22°F to +150°F).
  • Storage Temperature: -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F).

Industrial Equipment Temperature Monitoring

Suitable for various industrial scenarios requiring temperature monitoring. It realizes real-time temperature monitoring of equipment by accepting temperature inputs from RTDs and isolated tip thermocouples.

Machinery Condition Monitoring

As part of the Bently Nevada machinery condition monitoring system, it is used to monitor the temperature status of machines, providing data support for equipment operation status evaluation and fault early warning.

Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Configuration

In TMR configurations, three adjacent temperature monitors must be installed in groups. Two types of voting are used to ensure accurate operation and avoid single-point failures, making it suitable for critical systems with extremely high reliability requirements.

Maritime Field

With maritime certifications such as ABS (Marine and Offshore Applications) and DNV GL (Rules for Classification of Ships, Offshore Units, High Speed and Light Craft), it can be used for temperature monitoring in marine engineering fields such as ships and offshore platforms.
