Based on a microprocessor, the DECS-450 is suitable for both shunt excitation and shunt-compound excitation systems. It can provide DC power for the main magnetic field of synchronous motors or the magnetic field of exciters, and is compatible with motors of various sizes. It offers multiple configurations to meet specific needs and redundancy requirements, as well as both customized and standard solutions.

- Control Modes: Equipped with five control modes: AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation), FCR (Field Current Regulation), FVR (Field Voltage Regulation), VAR (Reactive Power Control), and PF (Power Factor Control), with automatic tracking between modes.
- Redundancy Options: Supports dual-controller redundancy, with a voltage regulation accuracy of 0.10%.
- Parallel Operation: Enables network load sharing via Ethernet, featuring reactive droop, line drop, and cross-current compensation functions.
- Protection Functions: Integrates multiple generator protections (e.g., 24, 25, 27, 59, etc.). Monitors excitation overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating, and excitation diodes, with configurable protection functions.
- Limiters: Includes over-excitation, under-excitation, stator current, reactive power, and low-frequency or V/Hz limiters.
- Auto-Tuning: Equipped with auto-tuning functionality with two PID setting groups (Patent No.: US 2009/0195224 A1).
- Optional PSS: Optional integrated Power System Stabilizer (PSS) compliant with IEEE Std. 421.5, available in types PSS2A/2B/2C.
- Programmable Logic: BESTlogic™Plus programmable logic for easy configuration and verification.
- Other Functions: Integrates an automatic synchronizer (standard configuration), backward compatible with DECS-400 controllers. Features trend recording, oscilloscope, and sequence of events recording functions, with abundant and expandable digital I/O.

Power Supply: Multiple power supply specifications available. For example:
- Style XLXXXXX: 24/48 Vdc (nominal), operating range 16–60 Vdc;
- Style XCXXXXX: 125 Vdc/120 Vac (nominal), operating range 90–150 Vdc, 82–132 Vac (50/60 Hz), with a load of 50 VA or 35 W.
Current Sensing: Supports 1-phase or 3-phase configurations, with independent cross-current compensation inputs. Nominal values are 1 Aac or 5 Aac (50/60 Hz), with a load of less than 1 VA for both 1 Aac and 5 Aac CTs.
Voltage Sensing: 1-phase or 3-phase configurations, with a per-phase load of less than 1 VA.
Regulation Accuracy:
- ±0.10% in AVR mode;
- ±1.0% in FCR and FVR modes;
- ±2.0% in VAR mode;
- ±0.02 pu in power factor mode.
Communication Interfaces:
- USB (Type B);
- RS-232 (optional external tracking);
- RS-485 (Modbus® RTU protocol);
- CAN bus (1 for peripherals, 1 for expansion modules);
- Ethernet (100BASE-TX or 100BASE-FX, Modbus TCP);
- Expansion port supporting optional Profibus protocol.
