The NI SCXI-1600 is a fully-featured USB 16-bit digitizer and control module specifically designed for SCXI signal conditioning chassis. Integrating both controller and digitizer functionality in one unit, it enables the control and data acquisition of SCXI analog input, analog output, digital I/O, and switch modules installed within the chassis.

With a USB 2.0 full-speed compatible connection, this module supports remote data acquisition applications at distances of up to 150 feet and can be directly connected to any standard USB port (1.0, 1.1, or 2.0). It automatically routes and digitizes the conditioned output signals from other SCXI modules, then transmits the digitized data to a PC via USB. When paired with NI-DAQmx software, it streamlines the configuration and measurement processes.

Core Technical Specifications

Acquisition Performance

Sampling Rate: Up to 200 kS/s. Multiplexed via a single-channel analog-to-digital converter, it supports up to 352 analog input channels, meeting the requirements of multi-channel synchronous data acquisition.

Resolution & Accuracy: Features 16-bit resolution (1/65536). The input range is flexibly adjustable based on gain: ±10 V at gain 0.5, ±5 V at gain 1, ±500 mV at gain 10, and ±50 mV at gain 100. It also supports input range configuration from ±0.05 V to ±10 V. After internal calibration, it delivers excellent measurement accuracy. At 25℃, the typical integral nonlinearity (INL) is ±1.5 LSB with a maximum of ±2.0 LSB; the typical differential nonlinearity (DNL) is ±0.5 LSB with a maximum of ±3.0 LSB. There are no missing codes, ensuring the accuracy of data acquisition.

Noise Characteristics: The single-point measurement noise and quantization error are as low as 100 μV. With dithering processing and averaging of 100 single-channel readings, the noise level can be further optimized, guaranteeing precise acquisition of weak signals.

Hardware Configuration

Connection Interfaces: Equipped with 3 BNC connectors for digital start trigger, external clock source, and external calibration respectively, as well as 1 front-panel USB connector for high-speed data transmission with a PC.

Input Characteristics: Adopts a successive approximation ADC with DC input coupling. The input impedance (under normal operation) is 100 GΩ in parallel with 100 pF, and the input bias current is only ±200 pA, effectively reducing signal interference. It has a 4096-sample FIFO buffer and 512-word configuration memory, supporting DMA data management to improve data transmission efficiency.
Trigger Functions: Supports multiple trigger types such as AI start trigger and AI sampling clock. The external trigger source is compatible with PFI <0,7> and complies with the 5 V TTL standard. It allows selection of rising or falling edge triggering, with a minimum pulse width of 10 ns in edge detection mode, meeting trigger requirements in different scenarios.

Calibration & Stability

Calibration Mechanism: Built-in calibration source with external calibration connection. A 15-minute warm-up time is recommended, and the calibration interval is 1 year, ensuring stable measurement accuracy during long-term use. The on-board calibration reference level is 5.000 V (±3.5 mV), with a maximum temperature coefficient of ±5 ppm/°C and long-term stability of ±15 ppm/1000 hours, providing a reliable benchmark for accurate calibration.
Temperature Characteristics: The operating temperature range is 0 to 50℃, and the storage temperature range is -20 to 70℃. The offset temperature coefficient is ±20 μV/°C (pre-gain) and ±175 μV/°C (post-gain); the gain temperature coefficient is ±20 ppm/°C, maintaining stable performance over a wide temperature range.

Power Supply & Protection

Power Requirements: Requires +22 VDC (max. 115 mA) and -22 VDC (max. 135 mA) power supply to meet the stable operation needs of the module.
Overvoltage Protection: The external calibration overvoltage protection is ±25 V when powered on and ±15 V when powered off. The maximum operating voltage (signal + common-mode voltage) of each input channel relative to ground shall not exceed ±11 V. The installation category I voltage rating between channels and between channels and ground is 11 V, ensuring safe operation of the equipment.

Included Software

Comes standard with NI-DAQmx 7.3 or later measurement service software. This software is deeply integrated with LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio, and supports high-performance functions such as multi-device synchronization and network-based measurement.
Bundled with the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool. It streamlines hardware configuration via device test panels, interactive measurements, and scalable I/O channels, and provides a wealth of example programs to help users quickly initiate application development.
