Core Functions & Compatible ModulesThe P0973CN expansion backplane features a 4-slot modular design. It primarily supports a redundant pair of FCP270 Field Control Processors (occupying two slots), while the remaining two slots can accommodate a redundant pair of FEM100 Fieldbus Expansion Modules.
This configuration is specifically engineered for systems requiring enhanced I/O distribution capability. With the expansion support of FEM100 modules, a single FCP270 Control Processor can be expanded to support up to four additional expansion fieldbuses. Each expansion fieldbus can further connect up to 32 Series 200 FBM Fieldbus Modules, significantly expanding the system’s I/O access capacity.
In addition, the backplane reserves installation space for optical fiber splitters/combiners for FCP270 modules, ensuring the stable operation of redundant FCP270 modules. It is also compatible with the redundant communication architecture of the Foxboro Evo™ system, thus guaranteeing the reliability of data transmission.

Notably, this backplane is equipped with no backplane identification DIP switches and requires no hardwired address configuration, simplifying the installation and commissioning processes.

Installation & Configuration FeaturesIn terms of mounting method, the P0973CN is a vertical DIN rail-mount backplane that must be installed on a non-isolated, mechanically supported vertical DIN rail. The rail can be positioned either inside or outside the equipment enclosure and secured firmly with fasteners.
It offers flexible mounting compatibility and can be used in combination with other Series 200 backplanes. When the system is equipped with a redundant bus, it supports in-service expansion without interrupting system operations, greatly improving operational and maintenance convenience.
The dimensions of this backplane comply with the standard specifications for Series 200 vertical-mount backplanes, and specific details can be referred to the dimension drawing (Figure 13) in the product documentation. Moreover, its weight without modules adheres to the lightweight design principle of Series 200 backplanes, facilitating on-site deployment.

In addition, the backplane is equipped with clearly labeled connectors, including power interfaces, module interfaces, and field I/O interfaces. The module slots are designed with guiding structures to ensure correct module insertion and reduce the risk of installation errors.
