FOXBORO FBM217 P0914TR discrete input module

RH916XZ is a supporting termination assembly (TA) for the FBM217 discrete input module in the Foxboro Evo  process automation system, and it replaces the two old models P0916XZ and P0916PW. This termination assembly is made of polyamide (PA) material, with an operating temperature range of -20 to +70°C (-4 to +158°F).

RH916XZ supports 32-channel 24V DC contact sense inputs, with contact wetting provided by the FBM217 module. It is a passive feed-through type and can achieve group isolation when combined with the FBM217. The voltage corresponding to its logic zero state is 0 to 5V DC, and the voltage corresponding to its logic one state is 15 to 30V DC.

The FBM217 is a discrete input module in the Foxboro Evo process automation system, launched by Foxboro, a subsidiary of Schneider Electric. It provides 32 DC voltage input channels, and each channel can accept two-wire inputs from a DC voltage source.

Inputs and Compatibility

The supported discrete inputs include voltage monitoring or contact sensing for 30 V DC, 125 V DC, 120 V AC, or 240 V AC. Related terminal assemblies (TAs) can handle discrete inputs below 60 V AC, 120 V AC/125 V DC, or 240 V AC. The module is capable of converting electrical input signals from field sensors into signals required by the module's fieldbus interface.

Configuration and Functions

It can be used as a single unit or as a redundant pair (two FBM217s). In redundant configuration, the modules receive field input signals from a common terminal assembly via a redundant adapter, and the field input current is doubled. The redundant digital input block in the Foxboro Evo™ control software verifies each input and selects the highest-quality input for the control strategy. Additionally, replacing either module does not affect the field input signals. The module can also execute programs for discrete inputs, ladder logic, pulse counting, and event sequences, with options such as configurable input filtering time and fail-safe configuration.

Physical and Environmental Characteristics

It features a robust extruded aluminum housing, suitable for G3 class (severe) environments as defined by ISA standard S71.04. The operating temperature range is -20 to +70°C (-4 to +158°F), and the storage temperature range is -40 to +70°C (-40 to +158°F). The relative humidity range is 5% to 95% (non-condensing). The altitude range is -300 to +3,000 m (-1,000 to +10,000 ft) for operation and -300 to +12,000 m (-1,000 to +40,000 ft) for storage.

Installation and Maintenance

It is mounted on a DIN rail-mounted backplane, which can accommodate up to 4 or 8 fieldbus modules. The module weighs approximately 284 g (10 oz) and can be removed and replaced without disconnecting the field device terminal cables, power supply, or communication cables.

There are many termination assemblies that can be used with the Foxboro FBM217. Different assemblies are suitable for different input signals and have various characteristics, playing a key role in signal processing, isolation, voltage adaptation, etc., to ensure the stable operation of the system:

RH916CA: Suitable for 32-channel, 30V DC voltage monitor inputs, with logic zero being 0 - 5V DC and logic one being 15 - 30V DC. It is a passive feedthrough type with FBM217 group isolation. It is often used in low-voltage signal monitoring scenarios, such as monitoring low-voltage status signals of field devices.
RH916XZ: Supports 32-channel, 24V DC contact sense inputs, with contact wetting provided by the FBM. It is also a passive feedthrough type with FBM217 group isolation. It is widely used in systems that need to detect device contact status and use 24V DC power supply.
RH916YA: Designed for 32-channel voltage monitor inputs with a maximum voltage of 132V AC or 150V DC. It has clear voltage ranges for logic states, and the input current is limited to a maximum value when in logic one. Channel isolation is provided by the termination assembly. It is suitable for occasions where monitoring relatively high AC or DC voltage signals is required.
RH916YB: Used for 32-channel contact sense inputs with a maximum voltage of 132V AC or 150V DC, with external excitation. It has corresponding logic voltage ranges and input current limits, and provides group isolation. It is often used in device contact detection under high voltage.

RH916QA: Suitable for 32-channel, 240V AC contact sense inputs with external excitation. It specifies the voltage ranges for logic zero and logic one, as well as the maximum input current, and has group isolation. It is used in high-voltage AC contact detection scenarios.
