The Kongsberg RSER200-4 is a 4-channel galvanically isolated serial interface module belonging to the Kongsberg Maritime RIO200 series. Designed for marine and industrial automation systems, it can connect 1 to 3 RCU controllers and 4 field devices. Supporting RS232, RS422, RS485 and NMEA 0183 protocols, it delivers reliable communication for long-distance transmission in harsh high-interference environments.

Product Advantages
Multi-protocol compatibility: The 4 channels can be configured independently and support mainstream serial communication standards for excellent adaptability.Galvanic isolation design: Complete isolation between channels delivers strong anti-interference performance and protects connected equipment.Redundant communication: Compatible with dual/triple redundant RCU controllers. Master-slave switchover ensures uninterrupted communication.Hot-swap & easy maintenance: DIN rail snap-on mounting allows module replacement without system shutdown, cutting maintenance costs.Wide temperature range & high stability: Operating temperature from -15℃ to +70℃, compliant with marine standards IEC 60945 and IACS E10.
Product Specifications
Hardware Configuration
- Channels: 4 isolated field channels (X1-X4), 3 RCU links (P1-P3, RJ45)
- Interfaces: USB 2.0 (P4, for commissioning only), RBUS A/B power interface (24VDC)
- Communication speed: 1 Mbps for RCU communication; 300 bps - 115 kbps for field channels
- Isolation: Full-channel galvanic isolation to suppress common-mode interference
Status Indication
- 17 LED indicators: Operating/fault status, as well as RX/TX indicators for each channel for intuitive fault diagnosis.
Power Supply & Reliability
- Dual 24VDC redundant power supply, with surge and overcurrent protection; hot-swap supported.
- Built-in watchdog for automatic restart upon software anomalies. MTBF: 20.9 years at 25℃.
Application Scenarios
Marine Automation: Engine room monitoring, navigation equipment (GPS/compass), alarm systems and dynamic positioning (DP) communication.
Industrial Control: Serial data acquisition and control for offshore platforms, oil & gas facilities, water treatment systems and distributed I/O systems.
Device Interconnection: Protocol conversion and data exchange between third-party sensors, instruments, actuators and Kongsberg RCU/PLC systems.

Operation Guide
Installation Steps
- Electrostatic protection: Wear an anti-static wrist strap to prevent static damage to the module.
- Module mounting: Hook the module onto the DIN rail at a 30° angle and fasten the snap lock for RBUS connection.
- Wiring:
- Connect RBUS A/B to 24VDC (redundant power supply is optional).
- Use T568B straight-through cables to connect P1-P3 to RCU controllers.
- Wire X1-X4 terminals to field devices (RS232/422/485/NMEA).
- Power on: The status LED flashes red first, then stays solid green when communication is normal.
Configuration Notes
Connect the module to a PC via USB, and use dedicated Kongsberg software to set channel protocols, baud rate, data bits, parity bits and stop bits.
For redundant RCU setup: Only the master controller transmits data, while slave controllers receive data synchronously. Automatic switchover will be triggered in case of master failure.

FAQ
Q: The red LED stays on after module power-up?A: This indicates a hardware fault or watchdog activation. Check the power supply (18-32VDC) and RBUS wiring, then re-seat the module. Replace the module if the issue persists.
Q: No data transmission or reception on field channels?A: ① Check wiring of X1-X4 (ensure TX/RX crossover and common GND connection); ② Verify the channel protocol and baud rate match the connected device; ③ Observe if the RX/TX LEDs are flashing.
Q: Loss of communication with RCU?A: ① Use T568B straight-through cables for P1-P3, with cable length ≤ 100 meters; ② Check master-slave configuration of RCU; ③ Restart the module or re-plug the network cable.
Q: Is hot swapping allowed?A: Hot swap is supported. It is recommended to disconnect field device wiring first to avoid transient current surge.
Q: How to wire NMEA 0183 devices?A: Wiring for X1-X4 terminals: 4 (TXP) → Device RX+, 5 (TXN) → Device RX-, 3/6 (GND) → Device ground.
