Foxboro (Schneider Electric) P0924WV USB Alarm / Digital Keypad

Product Introduction

P0924WV is a USB alarm-digital composite keypad dedicated for Foxboro I/A Series DCS system, designed for control room operator stations. It integrates audible & visual alarm indication, alarm acknowledgement, macro command calling and numerical input operations, delivering intuitive and efficient human-machine interaction for process operations. The unit can be placed independently on desktop or embedded into console panel, widely deployed in control rooms of process industries including chemical, oil & gas, power generation and water treatment.

The keypad feeds back system and process alarms via LED indicators and multi-tone buzzer. Keys provide clear tactile and audible feedback to ensure reliable operation under high-pressure industrial conditions. Built-in alarm relay enables hardware self-test, and external power amplifier speaker is supported to adapt to high-noise control room environments, helping operators shorten alarm identification and response time, improving plant operational safety and uptime.

Main Functions & Key Features

  • Key Layout: 4 rows × 8 alarm keys + 12 macro keys on top (without LED). Status LEDs are equipped beside alarm keys, and polyester custom labels can be inserted to tag alarm point names. Direction arrow keys and Select key are configured for numerical input to enter process parameters. Two backlit dedicated function keys are on the far left: Lamp Test on the top and Silence Horn at the bottom. Lamp Test can light up all LEDs in one click to complete indicator hardware inspection.
  • Multi-level Audible & Visual Alarm: LEDs support four configurable states: red, yellow, green and off, controlled by workstation software to stay on, off or flash corresponding to different alarm levels. Built-in multi-tone audio alarm uses different tones to distinguish priorities of system alarms and process alarms. External audio output port is available for connecting user-provided power amplifier and speakers.
  • Dual-pole Built-in Alarm Relay: One pole of the relay drives external alarm horns and other peripherals; the other pole is for internal loop self-test. Even if external drive function is disabled by configuration software, hardware integrity of the relay can still be verified.
  • Industrial Hardware Design: The housing adopts powder-coated extruded aluminum base and plastic end caps, with total weight of 1.27 kg and anti-slip foot pads. It can withstand liquid splashes and can be cleaned with mild non-abrasive detergents. Clean damp cloth is recommended for cleaning. Pollution grade meets ISA S71.04 G1 (light pollution), and EMC complies with CISPR 11 Class A standard.

FAQ

Q1:Can P0924WV be used on the same operator station together with serial alarm keypad (P0903CW)?

A1:

No. The workstation only supports either USB type or serial/GCIO type alarm keypad. The two types of devices cannot be connected to one host at the same time. Workstation with P0924WV installed shall not be equipped with serial card or GCIO interface module.

Q2:LED indicators do not flash and some keys are unresponsive, how to troubleshoot?

A2:

① Press Lamp Test key, all LEDs shall light up simultaneously to verify LED hardware integrity;

② Check USB cable and hub power supply. Third-party hub must meet 5 V 500 mA per port specification;

③ Confirm correct DCS software configuration, alarm point logic and key macro functions are properly downloaded;

④ Do not connect keypad via RGU Remote Graphics Unit.

Q3:Built-in buzzer volume is insufficient for noisy plant control room, what can be done?

A3:

The keypad has audio output jack for external user-provided power amplifier and speakers. The built-in buzzer tones are used to distinguish alarm priorities, and external speakers reuse this audio signal.

Q4:Long-distance installation required beyond standard 0.5 m cable, can ordinary USB extension cable be used directly?

A4:

Ordinary copper USB extension cable is not suitable for long-distance use. When distance exceeds 1.8 m up to maximum 30.5 m, dedicated fiber USB extension kit (such as P0923DX) is required.

Q5:External horn output of alarm relay is disabled by configuration, can the relay still perform self-test?

A5:

Yes. One channel of the dual-pole relay is dedicated for internal hardware detection. Even if external horn drive output is disabled by configuration, system can still check relay loop status and complete self-test.

Q6:How to maintain the keypad surface after liquid splashing?

A6:

It can withstand minor splashes. Direct water flushing is forbidden. Clean with clean slightly damp soft cloth and only mild non-abrasive detergents. Strong solvents are prohibited.

Q7:How many P0924WV can be connected to one USB hub at most?

A7:

Maximum 4 units. Each port of the hub needs to output 5 V DC@500 mA. Original 7-port USB Hub (P0928EH) is recommended.

Q8:Why are the 12 top macro keys not equipped with LED lights?

A8:

The 12 top keys are pure macro function keys only for calling preset screens and commands, not bound to alarm status, hence no LED status indicators. Other alarm input keys are equipped with configurable tri-color LEDs.

Q9:Keypad cannot be recognized after OS upgrade, what items need to be checked?

A9:

Confirm the current OS version is within the product support list; verify compatibility of I/A Series software version, keypad driver components fully installed, and USB port not cut off by system power management sleep.

Q10:What is the difference between P0924WV and P0924TT?

A10:

P0924TT is pure alarm keypad with total 48 alarm LED-key pairs. P0924WV is composite keypad combining alarm and digital input. It reduces quantity of alarm keys and adds direction & select keys to support numerical entry.
