Emerson A6500-CP is a high-performance System Communication Card Pro exclusively designed for the AMS 6500 ATG System. Its core positioning is to deliver a high-security, high-frequency data update and multi-dimensional equipment connectivity solution for rotating machinery monitoring. This module not only reads the operating parameters of all AMS 6500 ATG modules, but also outputs data via mainstream industrial communication protocols including ModBus TCP/IP, ModBus RTU (Serial) and OPC-UA as well as the ATG View mobile application. It also undertakes the configuration management of the entire system and collaborates with the AMS Machine Works software to realize predictive analysis functions. As a 1-slot monitoring module, it must be used in conjunction with other AMS 6500 ATG monitors to jointly build a complete machinery protection and monitoring system compliant with the API 670 standard. Widely applicable to critical rotating machinery such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors and hydraulic turbines, it provides equipment health parameters for operators in the control environment to achieve seamless integration. It also supplies power to the local graphic display of the protection rack and supports real-time reading of equipment and instrument data.
Physical and Interface Characteristics
1. Core Communication Interfaces
The A6500-CP is equipped with multiple types of communication interfaces to meet data transmission requirements in different scenarios. Its RS 485 interface complies with the EIA485 standard, supporting two data rate levels of 9600 Baud and 19.2 kBaud, with a peak-to-peak voltage of 200 mV, rated current of 1.6 mA, rated power of 0.4 mW, and support for up to 6 bus lines.
The Ethernet interface features 2 physically isolated RJ45 connectors, with a data rate of 10/100 Mbit and a maximum cable length of 100 m, a peak-to-peak voltage of 2 V, rated current of 100 mA and rated power of 200 mW. Both Ethernet ports (Ethernet Port I/II) support the Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP and OPC-UA protocols. Ethernet Port I is connectable to the AMS Machine Studio configuration interface and the AMS Machine Works predictive data interface, while the built-in web server of Ethernet Port II only provides read-only access to the LiveView dashboard.
The USB interface is a Type B port with a data rate of 12 Mbit/s, and the interface is grounded for isolation protection. In addition, the module has a built-in web server that supports the LiveView dashboard function; combined with the ATG View mobile application, it enables mobile and real-time data viewing.
2. Physical Specifications and Installation Design
The module adopts a compact 3U form factor and is a 1-slot plug-in module with hot-swappable functionality, which greatly reduces downtime costs during equipment maintenance. Compared with traditional 6U communication cards, it saves 50% of cabinet space.
A removable key switch is installed on the front panel to enable or disable configuration changes to the rack, ensuring the security of system parameters at the physical level. The module weighs approximately 170 g (excluding packaging), and its circuit board conforms to the PCB/Eurocard format of the DIN 41494 standard, with specific dimensions of 100×160 mm (3.937×6.300 inches). The rack slot specification is 3RU/4HP, featuring high installation compatibility and adaptability to mainstream industrial rack environments.

Environmental Adaptability and Reliability
1. Environmental Parameters
The A6500-CP demonstrates excellent adaptability in harsh industrial environments. It has an IP20 protection rating (compliant with IEC 60529) and its surface is coated with HumiSeal 1B31 EPA conformal coating (in accordance with IPC‑CC‑830B and IPC‑A 610 standards), which effectively resists airborne contaminants and meets the G3 level airborne contamination protection requirements of the ISA-S71.04-1985 standard.
The operating temperature range varies by cooling method: -20°C to +70°C (-4°F to 158°F) under forced cooling, and -20°C to +55°C (-4°F to 131°F) without forced cooling. The storage temperature range is wider, from -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to 185°F). It can withstand a relative humidity of 5% to 95% (non-condensing), adapting to humid or dry industrial scenarios.
In addition, the module has passed the vibration test in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6: it can withstand a vibration displacement of 0.15 mm in the 10-55 Hz frequency range and a vibration acceleration of 20 m/s² in the 55-150 Hz frequency range, ensuring stable operation in vibrating environments caused by equipment operation.
2. Power Consumption
The module has a maximum power consumption of 4 W, featuring a low-power design for industrial equipment. This design reduces the load on the system's main power supply and the overall energy consumption cost, while minimizing heat generation from high power consumption, helping to maintain a stable operating temperature inside the equipment.

Cybersecurity and User Management
The A6500-CP places high priority on cybersecurity in industrial scenarios and is certified to the IEC 62443 cybersecurity standard, delivering internationally compliant security safeguards for the data transmission of critical assets and effectively mitigating potential threats in industrial networks.
For user management, it adopts a state-of-the-art user management system which, combined with the physical key switch on the front panel, implements a dual restriction mechanism on the personnel authorized for configuration changes and the corresponding operation time. This prevents system malfunctions or data leakage caused by unauthorized parameter modifications.
In addition, the module supports the SNTP time synchronization function, which ensures unified timestamps for all data and provides an accurate time reference for subsequent data analysis and fault tracing.
Ordering Information and Additional Functions
1. Ordering Models
Emerson offers a variety of associated ordering models for the A6500-CP to meet diverse configuration requirements. Among them, the A6500-CP is the base model (System Communication Card Pro); the A6500-CP-P is a package model that includes the A6500-CP and A6500-PE; the A6500-PE is the AMS 6500 ATG Predictive Expansion License; the A6500-PER is the redundant predictive expansion license with two A6500-PE licenses included; and the A6500-SD is a spare system SD card for replacement purposes. Users can select the corresponding model combination based on actual system requirements.
2. Additional Functions and Advantages
In addition to its core communication and monitoring functions, the A6500-CP is equipped with a number of additional functions that enhance system efficiency and security.
In terms of data transmission and integration, the module can act as a central communication hub, seamlessly integrating data from all sensors and modules within the AMS 6500 ATG system to enable collaboration between control, mechanical health and analysis systems. Its design features two physically isolated Ethernet ports, allowing users to transmit data to different networks without the need for additional configuration of a second communication card or an external switch with a firewall. This not only reduces hardware costs, but also frees up the saved communication card slots for redundant configuration, improving system reliability.
Furthermore, the module is designed to be compatible with the AMS 6500 ATG Version 4.1 system, and can leverage the system's advanced functions to further strengthen network security and data management capabilities, providing all-round protection for the long-term stable operation of critical industrial rotating equipment.
