FC-IO-0002 is a dedicated I/O expansion module for Honeywell Safety Manager A.R.T Safety Instrumented System (SIS). As a core bus driver component, it is mainly installed in Slot 20 and Slot 21 of the I/O chassis. It establishes data links between the controller's vertical bus and the I/O backplane horizontal bus, and performs key tasks including Watchdog signal transmission, 5V power distribution and module status monitoring. It is an essential component ensuring stable communication, power supply and self-diagnostics of the entire safety control system.

This module supports redundant deployment and is compatible with both redundant and non-redundant I/O chassis architectures. Fully compliant with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 safety standards, it is applicable to safety loops rated SIL1 to SIL3, and widely used with Honeywell Safety Manager series controllers.

Core Features

1. Hardware & Structural Parameters

Installation SpecificationsStandard industrial board form factor with dimensions of 4 TE in width and 3 HE in height. It fits Honeywell A.R.T. series I/O chassis such as IOCHAS-0002S and IOCHAS-0002R, and is installed via direct insertion into chassis slots.
Physical ParametersWeight: approx. 500 g; Dimensions: 14.4 × 9 × 5 cm. The modular design facilitates easy handling and installation.
Power Supply SpecificationsDual-channel 5 VDC input with diode OR gate design. Maximum operating current of the whole module is 100 mA. It provides two groups of power outputs with a voltage drop of 0.2~0.8 A per group and output current exceeding 1.25 A, capable of stably powering up to 18 I/O modules inside the chassis.

2. Signal & Functional Features

Bus CommunicationActing as a bridge between the vertical system bus and horizontal I/O backplane bus, it forwards commands from the controller and field signals uploaded by I/O modules to ensure reliable end-to-end communication.
WatchdogEquipped with 2 input channels and 18 output channels. Maximum input current per channel is 10 mA, and maximum output current per channel is 25 mA. It monitors the operating status of each I/O module in real time and activates isolation protection upon detecting abnormalities.
Status IndicationBuilt-in multi-color LED indicators show three operating states: off for standby, green light for normal operation and red light for faults, enabling on-site status check at a glance.
Address ConfigurationI/O address assignment is completed via chassis DIP switches. It supports address resolution for all I/O modules from Slot 1 to 18 in the chassis without additional software configuration.

3. Environmental & Compliance Features

Operating EnvironmentOperating temperature: -20℃ ~ +70℃; Storage temperature: -40℃ ~ +85℃; Relative humidity: 5% ~ 95% (non-condensing). It withstands conventional industrial vibration and electromagnetic interference.
Safety CertificationsCompliant with functional safety standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511, suitable for SIL3 safety loops. It also holds industrial certifications including CE and UL.

Product Advantages

High Redundancy & ReliabilitySupports dual-module redundant configuration (Slot 20 for main module and Slot 21 for standby module). The standby module takes over seamlessly once the main module fails. A single module fault will not cause overall I/O outage, meeting fault tolerance requirements of industrial safety systems.
All-in-one Integrated DesignIt integrates four major functions: bus driving, watchdog signal distribution, 5V power distribution and status indication. No extra adapters are required, which simplifies chassis wiring and hardware structure and reduces potential failure points.
Precise Fault IsolationWith built-in watchdog mechanism, it can cut off monitoring signals of faulty I/O modules independently to isolate single-module faults and prevent failures from spreading across the entire I/O link.
Wide Operating AdaptabilityAdopts industrial-grade hardware design. Its performance on temperature, humidity, vibration and anti-interference complies with industrial site standards. It is applicable to control rooms and general industrial environments, and compatible with the full range of Honeywell Safety Manager chassis.
Plug-and-play CompatibilityIt works with hot-swap architecture, allowing module replacement without system shutdown for easy maintenance. The board features standardized interfaces and is fully compatible with I/O modules and backplanes of the same series, enabling mixed use of new and old versions.

FAQ

Q: Can FC-IO-0002 and IO-0001 be directly interchanged?
A: No. They are compatible with different chassis and system versions. FC-IO-0002 is exclusively for the Safety Manager A.R.T. system and matching IOCHAS-0002 series chassis, while IO-0001 applies to the standard Safety Manager. They differ in hardware interfaces and underlying protocols. Please select modules according to your system model.
Q: Are two FC-IO-0002 modules mandatory for redundant configuration?
A: For Safety Manager A.R.T. redundant I/O chassis (IOCHAS-0002R), two modules (one in Slot 20 and one in Slot 21) are recommended for hot standby operation. A single module is acceptable for non-redundant chassis. Install the original blank panel on vacant slots for dust protection.
Q: What are the common causes when the module red light stays on?
A: Main causes: ① Poor contact between the module and backplane; power off and reinsert the module. ② Abnormal 5V power supply; inspect the chassis power circuit. ③ Short circuit of downstream I/O modules triggering watchdog protection. ④ Internal hardware failure; replace the module.
Q: The module indicators work normally, but I/O modules cannot be recognized by the host computer?
A: First check for incorrect DIP switch settings for chassis addresses, then verify loose flat cables of the I/O bus. If wiring is normal, the FC-IO-0002 bus driver is likely faulty and needs replacement.
Q: Will high on-site humidity affect the module?
A: The module operates stably at 5%~95% relative humidity (non-condensing). Use a cabinet dehumidifier if condensation occurs, to prevent pin short circuits and board burnout.
Q: Does the module support hot swapping? What precautions should be taken?
A: Hot swapping is allowed under full redundant configuration. Always wear an anti-static wristband and insert/remove the module gently without brute force. Hot swapping is strictly prohibited on non-redundant systems, as it will shut down the entire I/O loop.
