GE CONVERTEAM PIB-101C is a hybrid I/O module integrating power supply interface and analog signal processing. It belongs to the ALSPA field distributed control hardware architecture and undertakes three core functions: analog signal acquisition from field sensors, analog output of control commands, and power distribution for modules inside the cabinet.

Technical Features

Multi-channel mixed signal integration: 8 isolated differential analog input channels, 8 analog output channels, 8 isolated 24V digital input channels and 4 isolated 24V digital output channels. A single module covers both analog and digital field signals.
Full-channel electrical isolation design. Insulation isolation is implemented between individual channels as well as between the module and the system backplane. It withstands high-frequency electromagnetic interference and voltage surges at industrial sites, reducing the likelihood of signal drift and data distortion.
Software-adaptive signal ranges. Analog channels support four signal specifications: 0~10V DC, ±10V DC, 4~20mA and ±20mA. Switching between ranges is completed via upper computer configuration software without modifying hardware jumpers.
High-precision ADC/DAC conversion with dynamically adjustable resolution from 12-bit to 16-bit. 16-bit resolution is selected for low-speed monitoring scenarios to ensure detection of tiny signals, while 12-bit resolution is adopted for high-speed control scenarios to boost response speed.

Operating Principle

The module consists of four core circuit units working in coordination: power distribution unit, analog signal conversion unit, digital signal isolation unit, and backplane bus communication processing unit.
24V DC power from the external cabinet is fed into the module’s power distribution unit. After voltage regulation and filtering, one branch supplies power to the module’s internal signal conversion circuits, while the other branch outputs power to other I/O boards within the same rack to realize power distribution for all cabinet modules.
Analog voltage and current signals generated by field sensors are sent to the analog signal conversion unit. Isolation operational amplifiers eliminate interference caused by ground potential differences on site. An ADC then converts continuous analog quantities into digital signals and transmits them to the communication processing unit. Digital regulation commands issued by the main controller are restored to standard analog output signals via a DAC to drive field actuators.
Field 24V digital switching signals pass through opto-isolation circuits to filter interference and are converted into digital switching signals recognizable by the control system.
All collected digital data and module fault diagnostic information are aggregated into the backplane bus communication processing unit. Data is packaged in compliance with the ALSPA bus protocol and transmitted to the system main control CPU. Meanwhile, the unit receives channel configuration parameters and output control commands sent down by the main controller, distributes them to the corresponding signal processing units for execution, and completes the full closed-loop control flow of field signals.
