Woodward 2301E 8273‑1011 Digital Load Sharing & Speed Control Board

Product Overview

Woodward 2301E 8273‑1011 is a microprocessor‑based digital governor intended for ordinary safe‑rated industrial locations. It serves as a replacement for legacy 2301A/2301D analog controllers for diesel and gas generator sets, pumps and compressors.

Model 8273‑1011 delivers standalone speed regulation, multi‑unit parallel load sharing and grid‑tied base‑load control. It is widely deployed in land‑based power stations, marine auxiliary generator sets, factory backup power supplies and off‑grid microgrid systems.

Four Built-in Operating Modes

  1. Speed Control: For single genset, pumps & compressors, remote 4–20mA speed reference support
  2. Isochronous Load Sharing: Parallel gensets equal power distribution with soft load/unload ramp
  3. Droop Base Load: Grid parallel load adjustment via dry contact raise/lower signals
  4. Isochronous Base Load: Constant power output when synchronized to utility bus

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between Woodward 2301E 8273-1011 and old 2301A governor?

A1: The 8273-1011 2301E is fully digital microprocessor controlled with software parameterization, Modbus communication, soft load transfer and load pulse protection; legacy 2301A uses analog circuit tuning without remote digital monitoring functions. Terminal layout maintains backward compatibility for direct replacement retrofit.

Q2: Can I adjust load sharing parameters remotely via Modbus?

A2: Yes, base load setpoint and speed bias values can be written via Modbus RTU; core dynamic PID gains require local PC connection through RS-232 Control Assistant software for safety lockout.

Q3: What actuator signal types does the 2301E 8273-1011 support?

A3: Actuator driver output supports four standard signals: 4–20mA, 0–20mA, 0–200mA, PWM pulse width modulation, compatible with all Woodward linear fuel actuators.

Q4: Does this model work for 60Hz North American generators and 50Hz European/Asian gensets?

A4: Fully compatible; 50/60Hz frequency selection is a software-configurable parameter in Control Assistant, no hardware modification required.
