The Motorola MVME162-213 is a high-performance 32-bit VME-bus embedded controller designed by Motorola for industrial embedded monitoring and control applications.It is powered by a 32MHz MC68040 processor, featuring 8KB cache, an MMU (Memory Management Unit), and an FPU (Floating-Point Unit).

Standard configurations include 16MB shared DRAM, 512KB battery-backed SRAM, and 1MB Flash firmware storage.

Installation and Maintenance Guide

1. Installation Procedure

Hardware Installation

Power off all equipment before installation. Insert the MVME162-213 vertically into the corresponding slot of a standard VME chassis, ensuring full contact of the gold-plated edge connectors.Connect the VMEbus P1/P2 interfaces, and attach serial, Ethernet, SCSI peripherals and IndustryPack modules as required.Install the battery backup module to maintain power for SRAM and real-time clock during power loss.

Firmware Initialization

After power‑on, access the MVME162BUG debug interface via the Console serial port (default baud rate: 38.4 kbps).Configure boot parameters, memory mapping and bus settings, then load the operating system or user firmware.

Expansion Configuration

Supports up to 4 single‑wide or 2 double‑wide IndustryPack modules while occupying only one VME slot.Configure VME system controller, interrupt priority and other parameters via jumpers.

2. Routine Maintenance

Check the backup battery voltage regularly. Battery life is approximately 200 days at 40°C; replace promptly when expired.Clean dust inside the chassis to maintain forced air cooling and prevent thermal throttling or failures.Back up Flash firmware and NVRAM configuration parameters to avoid accidental data loss.Hot‑swapping of VME boards and IndustryPack modules is prohibited to prevent interface damage.
