The new-generation 3500/15 AC power supply module replaces the two old AC power supply modules. The design of the 3500/15 AC power supply has been changed to use the same model of main power supply module and power input module for all AC voltage input ranges from 85 to 264 Vac, thus replacing the original two models of high-voltage AC (HVAC) and low-voltage AC (LVAC) with one AC module.
The Bently 3500 power supply is a half-height module and must be installed in a specially designed slot on the left side of the frame. The 3500 frame can be installed with one or two power supplies (any combination of AC and DC power supplies), and any type of power supply can power the entire frame. If two power supplies are installed, the second one can serve as a redundancy for the basic power supply; as long as there is a backup power supply, removing and installing a power supply module will not affect the operation of the rack.
Power Supply Types
The 3500 monitoring system can accept three types of power supplies: AC power supply, high-voltage DC power supply, and low-voltage DC power supply. With two types of Power Input Modules (PIMs), the 3500 AC power supply can accept two ranges of AC input voltages: the high-voltage AC PIM can accept input from 175 Vac to 250 Vac rms, and the low-voltage AC PIM can accept input from 85 to 125 Vac rms. The high-voltage DC power supply can provide DC input from 88 to 140 Vdc, and the low-voltage DC power supply can provide DC input from 20 to 30 Vdc.
Single Power Supply
The 3500 can operate with a single power supply under full load. When using a single power supply, it is recommended to install the single power supply in the upper position.
Dual Power Supplies
When the frame is equipped with two power supplies, the power supply in the lower slot serves as the main power supply, and the one in the upper slot serves as the backup power supply. If the main power supply fails, the backup power supply will power the frame without interrupting its operation. Each power supply will supply power to an independent power distribution network, ensuring that any fault in one power distribution network (such as a +5V power supply short circuit) will not affect the power supply of the second one. When using triple redundant modules, two power supplies are required.
The power input module is a half-height module, connected to the power supply and providing power. It is installed at the rear of the power supply module (depending on rack or panel mounting) or on top of the power supply (in the partition frame). For example, if the power supply is installed in the upper slot, its power input module must be installed in the upper slot. When there is a backup power supply and the corresponding power input module, pulling out or inserting a power input module will not affect the operation of the 3500 frame.
To avoid ground loops, the system must provide a single-point ground. The power input module is equipped with a switch to control where the system is grounded; if two power supplies are installed, the two switches need to be set to the same position. The switch of the power input module is set to CLOSED when leaving the factory, with the grounding system led to the terminal connector through the end (END). If the system is grounded at another place (such as with an external protector), the switch needs to be set to OPENED.
