The GE IC695RMX128 is a Redundant Memory Exchange (RMX) module under the PACSystems RX3i series. Its model IC695RMX128-AC has a firmware version of 1.04, which was released in August 2011. Prior to this, there was version 1.01 (model IC695RMX128-AB) released in February 2009.

This module features a single-slot form factor and supports hot-swapping in the RX3i universal backplane. It has two core application scenarios: first, serving as a reflective memory network node to enable deterministic data sharing between PLCs and other computing devices, where it delivers the same functionality as the IC695CMX128 module; second, acting as a dedicated link between CPUs in the RX3i hot standby CPU redundant system to realize data transmission between redundant CPUs.When the module is used as a redundant system link, it can no longer function as a general-purpose memory exchange module, and certain functions will be restricted in this scenario.

Key Functional Features

Dual-Mode Operation

  1. Reflective Memory Network Node ModeIt can access reflective memory device networks compatible with the VMIC 5565 series, adopting a daisy-chain ring topology. Data written to any node is automatically synchronized to all nodes across the network without the participation of the RX3i CPU in network operation. It also supports configurable network memory offsets, enabling node grouping by 16MB address segments, and is equipped with redundant transmission mode to reduce the probability of packet loss.
  2. CPU Redundant Link ModeOne RMX module is required for each of the active and standby units, with two high-speed fiber optic cables forming the communication path. GE strongly recommends configuring dual redundant links (4 RMX modules in total), and a single link (2 RMX modules in total) is also an option. Only dual-node rings can be constructed in this mode, and access to other reflective memory nodes is prohibited.

Convenient Configuration and Maintenance

All node parameters support software configuration without the need for jumpers or DIP switches; the RMX128-AA module can be upgraded to firmware version 1.04 via the upgrade kit 82A1558-MS10-000-A1.Firmware version 1.04 optimizes data reading issues, which can detect and correct rare memory read data corruption faults without restarting the module. It also adds support for 68-byte data packets, avoiding data loss caused by mismatched packet specifications of compatible devices.

Chassis Deployment Restrictions

A maximum of 6 RMX128 and CMX128 memory exchange modules can be mixed and installed in the RX3i main chassis, among which only up to 2 RMX modules can be configured as redundant communication links.

Compatibility Requirements

  1. Software Version: Configuration requires programming software of PME 5.90 SIM1 or later versions.
  2. CPU Firmware: The firmware version of RX3i CPU must be 5.70 or higher; for redundant systems, it must be paired with the PACSystems RX3i CRU320 CPU.
  3. Hardware Deployment: The module must be installed in the RX3i main chassis and cannot be used in the expansion bases of Series 90-30.

Usage Restrictions and Precautions

  1. RMX and CMX modules with Version A hardware must be installed in metal enclosures to meet radiation emission requirements.
  2. When the CPU enters stop/suspend mode, if the automatic transmitter disable function is enabled, the module’s fiber optic transmitter cannot be shut down normally (it can be disabled properly when the CPU has a hardware fault or is removed). This function can be turned off by clearing bit 12 of offset 0x440 in Zone 3 via the BUS_WRITE instruction.
  3. When parity check is enabled in non-redundant link mode, the module may occasionally report false parity errors (the data itself is valid), and this issue is more likely to occur when the same memory address is accessed frequently and simultaneously.
  4. When a synchronization loss interrupt is triggered, the corresponding bit in the LISR register will be set, but the synchronization loss bit in the LCSR register will not be latched. The synchronization loss status must be judged by monitoring the LISR register.

Hazardous Location Installation Specifications

This module is suitable for Class I, Div. 2, Groups A/B/C/D hazardous locations and non-hazardous locations. The following precautions must be observed during use:
The power supply must be turned off before replacement or wiring; hot-swapping of devices in hazardous locations is strictly prohibited.
Module components must not be replaced arbitrarily, as this will affect compliance with the usage requirements for hazardous locations.
