Differential Protection: Features percentage braking and instantaneous (non-braking) differential protection. The percentage differential element adopts dual-slope and dual-breakpoint characteristics, ensuring stable operation under various fault conditions. During CT saturation, it uses the maximum winding current as the braking quantity to prevent misoperation during external faults; for internal faults, it enables rapid fault clearing. Additionally, it integrates second harmonic braking and overexcitation braking functions to avoid misoperation during transformer energization or overexcitation. The second harmonic braking function can adjust sensitivity according to different transformer characteristics in adaptive mode, enhancing reliability during internal faults and safety during energization; the overexcitation braking function utilizes fifth harmonic braking to address overexcitation caused by voltage rise or frequency reduction.
Ground Fault Protection: Low-impedance Restricted Ground Fault (RGF) protection can detect weak fault currents near the neutral point of Y-type windings, extending the protection range to the neutral point. When external faults may cause CT saturation, the optimized adaptive braking signal maintains high sensitivity to internal faults.
Distance Protection: Equipped with five-zone phase-to-phase and ground distance protection elements as backup protection. The phase distance element includes built-in in-zone transformer compensation and a load encroachment element, which monitors the distance element under heavy resistive load conditions to prevent protection misoperation.
Overcurrent Protection: Incorporates functions such as thermal overload, definite-time, and instantaneous overcurrent protection, covering various types including phase, neutral line, and ground protection. The neutral line directional overcurrent element supports an enhanced dual-polarization mode, allowing configuration of priority voltage or current polarization as needed. These functions can operate in parallel with the main differential protection or serve as the primary protection when other protection elements are blocked.
User-Defined Protection Functions: Offers sixteen user-defined protection functions (FlexElements), which can be programmed based on quantities measured or calculated by the relay (e.g., phase current, ground current, voltage, power, frequency, power factor). They are applicable to protection scenarios such as overvoltage, overpower, low power factor, and temperature difference.
Electrical Quantity Monitoring: Accurately measures and records all AC signals, including voltage, current, and power. It provides parameters such as total RMS, fundamental amplitude, and phase angle, and can measure voltage and current harmonics up to the 25th order, meeting power quality monitoring requirements.
Temperature and Related Parameter Monitoring: Via the RTD module option, it supports 8 programmable RTD inputs (or a remote RRTD module with 12 RTD inputs), used to monitor transformer hot-spot temperature, aging factor, and life loss. This data assists in formulating transformer replacement plans and achieving optimized asset management.
Ethernet Communication: Equipped with 3 independent Ethernet ports, supporting IEEE 1588 time synchronization for high-speed, reliable network connections. It supports multiple communication protocols, including IEC 61850 (Ed.1 and Ed.2), DNP 3.0, Ethernet Global Data (EGD), IEC 60870-5-103, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus RTU, and Modbus TCP/IP, facilitating integration with DCS and SCADA systems.
IEC 61850 Process Bus Support: Supports the IEC 61850-9-2 process bus and seamlessly integrates with the Multilin HardFiber System, enabling bidirectional communication via optical fibers. This reduces design, installation, and testing efforts without introducing new cybersecurity risks.
Other Communication Features: Supports routable GOOSE (R-GOOSE), allowing GOOSE messages to be sent outside the substation, facilitating wide-area protection and control (WAPC) and reducing communication architecture costs. It also supports IEEE 1588 and redundant SNTP time synchronization to ensure system time accuracy, and PRP (IEC 62439-3) for network redundancy, minimizing fault switching time to zero and improving network availability.

FlexLogic Programmable Logic: A powerful FlexLogic programmable logic engine with 1024 lines of programming capability, enabling the creation of customized protection and control schemes. For example, it can be used for line phase comparison (including interlocking with external synchronizers), transfer tripping schemes for remote circuit breakers, and dynamic setting group changes.
Scalable Hardware: Offers various I/O configuration options to adapt to different application requirements. It supports multiple CT/VT configurations to implement diverse differential protection schemes; features a wide range of digital output types, including trip-rated Form-A, solid-state relay (SSR) mechanical latching, and Form-C outputs; and provides RTD and DCmA inputs for monitoring equipment parameters such as temperature and pressure.
Fault and Disturbance Recording: Advanced fault and event recording functions compliant with IEEE C37.111-1999/2013 and IEC 60255-24 Ed 2.0 COMTRADE standards. It can record 1024 time-stamped sequence of events (SOE), waveform records with 64 digital channels and up to 40 analog channels, 16-channel data loggers with 1 sample per cycle, and fault reports. These provide detailed data for post-event analysis and report generation of power system events.
Equipment Health Diagnostics: Conducts comprehensive equipment health diagnostics during startup and operation, monitoring the accuracy and performance of critical components such as CT/VT input circuits, input/output, trip circuits, and analog channels. Equipment status is displayed via SCADA communication and the front panel, enabling early detection of potential issues and improving system uptime.
Integrates CyberSentry UR software, supporting AAA servers (Radius/LDAP) for centralized authentication and accounting of user activities; supports role-based access control (RBAC) with up to five configurable roles and eight users; and includes an event logger (Syslog for SEM) that captures all cybersecurity-related events, classified by security level, facilitating integration with security event management (SEM) systems. It meets cybersecurity requirements such as NERC CIP and NIST IR 7628.
User Interface: The front panel provides rich local human-machine interface (HMI) functions for monitoring, status message display, fault diagnosis, and device configuration. An optional 7-inch color graphic HMI is available, supporting custom bay diagrams for local status monitoring, value display, and control functions. The alarm signal panel can be configured with up to 96 signals (alarms and statuses) with complete text descriptions.
Software Support: Accompanied by the EnerVista software suite, which includes various tools such as EnerVista Launchpad for device configuration and maintenance, Viewpoint UR Engineer for system-level configuration and testing, Viewpoint Maintenance for report generation and simplified data download, and EnerVista Integrator for integrating Multilin devices into automation systems. These software tools help users better manage transformer protection systems, perform event analysis, and conduct system maintenance.
