The ProSoft
MVI56-MDA4 is a
COMMUNICATIONS MODULE specifically designed for the MDA Scientific CM4 gas analyzer in industrial environments. Its core function is to enable seamless integration between Rockwell Automation’s ControlLogix processor and MDA Scientific CM4 gas monitoring hardware, acting as a communication bridge between the two. It is suitable for industries that produce, utilize, or come into contact with toxic and corrosive gases (such as petrochemicals, environmental monitoring, and chemical manufacturing), and is particularly well-suited for scenarios requiring centralized control and data management of gas monitoring systems via the ControlLogix processor.
As part of the ProSoft inRAx product line, this module features high compatibility, stable data transmission capability, and flexible configuration options. Leveraging ProSoft’s global technical support network, it delivers a reliable solution for gas monitoring and control requirements in industrial field applications.

Core Functions and Advantages
Communication Bridge Function
The module acts as an input/output unit between the CM4 gas monitoring network and the Rockwell Automation Backplane, enabling bidirectional data interaction. Data transmission between the ControlLogix processor and the CM4 network adopts an asynchronous mode, which prevents mutual interference and ensures the independence and stability of data transmission.
Large-Capacity Data Exchange Space
It has a built-in register space of 5,000 words, dedicated to data flow exchange between the processor and the CM4 network. The module supports the transmission of multiple data types including binary, integer, ASCII and floating-point, meeting the real-time transmission requirements of various parameters in gas monitoring (such as gas concentration, equipment status, alarm information, etc.).
Dual CM4 Master Port Configuration
Equipped with two fully configurable serial ports (PRT1 & PRT2), each port supports the CM4 master device function. A single port can connect up to 10 CM4 devices, and the entire module supports a total of 10 CM4 device accesses, making it suitable for multi-device distributed gas monitoring scenarios.
Rich Instruction Support
The module supports 4 types of read instructions and 5 types of write instructions, covering the core operation requirements of gas monitoring systems.
- Read instructions include:
- Acquire system information (0x30)
- Retrieve equipment status (0x31)
- Query alarm history (0x36)
- Get current monitoring point status (0x37)
- Write instructions include:
- Reset faults or alarms (0x51)
- Set secret keys (0x52)
- Lock the keyboard (0x53)
- End monitoring point lock (0x60)
- Initiate monitoring point lock (0x61)
Comprehensive control and status query of CM4 devices can be realized through the above instructions.
Convenient Configuration and Debugging
Supports parameter downloading via configuration text files (including sample configuration files) and provides sample ladder logic programs, allowing users to directly conduct secondary development based on the samples and reduce programming workload.
The module is equipped with a debug/configuration port (CFG, RJ45 interface, with DB-9M adapter cable), which supports RS-232 communication for on-site connection to a computer for parameter debugging and status diagnosis.
