Core Positioning and Design Philosophy

Detailed Functions
(I) Comprehensive Protection Functions
- Stator Protection: Equipped with high-speed dual-slope percentage differential and overcurrent elements to protect against stator phase faults during both normal operation and startup. Advanced CT saturation detection with directional checking ensures accurate fault discrimination and prevents maloperation caused by external interference. It also offers 100% stator earth fault protection using overvoltage elements and adaptive voltage differential functionality to respond to third-harmonic unbalance at the machine terminals and neutral, precisely distinguishing between internal and external ground faults to fully cover stator winding earth risks.
- Thermal Protection: Monitors stator and bearing temperatures via RTD inputs, supporting up to 12 RTD channels for stator thermal overload protection. RTD redundancy enhances protection reliability. Thermal model overload curves can be biased according to current unbalance and maximum stator temperature, with exponential decay to simulate machine cooling; it also supports startup protection for induction generators.
- Other Core Protections: Include loss-of-field protection (via impedance or reactive power detection), overexcitation protection, reverse power / low forward power protection (to prevent motoring damage to the prime mover), undervoltage / overvoltage protection, negative-sequence overcurrent protection, breaker failure protection, accidental energization protection, and directional earth fault protection. Alarm and trip parameters can be flexibly configured for actual applications, forming a full-range safety barrier for the generator.
(II) Accurate Monitoring and Metering Functions
- Electrical Parameter Metering: Accurately measures three-phase current (RMS and negative-sequence), voltage, power (active, reactive, apparent), frequency, power factor, and energy. Metering accuracy complies with industrial standards, supporting operational efficiency analysis and energy consumption statistics.
- Condition Monitoring: Supports 10 analog inputs for vibration monitoring (compatible with vibration sensors) and bearing temperature monitoring. Features 22 status indicators for real-time display of relay operation, fault alarms, and other information in an intuitive format.
- Data Logging: Built-in event recorder storing up to 40 events (expandable to 256 time-stamped events in certain versions). IRIG-B time synchronization ensures record accuracy. It also supports waveform capture of up to 64 cycles (extendable to 128 cycles in some versions) at 12 samples per cycle. Combined with data logging, this greatly shortens troubleshooting time and provides strong evidence for fault analysis.
(III) Flexible Control and Communication Functions
- Control Functions: Equipped with 6 output relays rated for 10A continuous and 30A for 0.2 seconds, used for generator start/stop control, fault tripping, and alarm signaling. Built-in waveform simulation simplifies setpoint verification testing and reduces maintenance complexity.
- Communication Functions: Includes one RS232 port and two rear RS485 ports, supporting industrial standard protocols such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, and DNP 3.0. Communication baud rate is adjustable from 300bps to 19200bps, enabling seamless integration into industrial control systems for remote monitoring, parameter configuration, and data retrieval. It is also compatible with EnerVista 489 Setup software for parameter programming, fault analysis, and data export, further improving O&M efficiency.
