The A6630 is a dedicated single-slot temperature monitoring module for Emerson CSI 6500 Machinery Health monitoring system and serves as a core temperature measurement component compliant with API 670 safety specifications for industrial rotating machinery. Integrated into the PlantWeb digital plant architecture and AMS intelligent asset management suite, it was officially released and finalized in 2011 for temperature protection of critical rotating equipment across thermal power, chemical and oil & gas sectors.

Compatible with both thermocouple (TC) and RTD temperature sensors without external signal transmitters, the module acquires temperature readings from bearings, motor windings, lubricating oil and process media. When deployed alongside CSI6500 vibration and shaft displacement monitor cards, it forms a complete TSI (Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation) system. Once measurements exceed preset limits, onboard relays activate alarm signals or equipment shutdown interlocks to supplement fault diagnosis via thermal parameters, improving unit availability and operational safety. It fits standard IMR6000/10, IMR6000/30 and CSI6500 racks and is available in two channel variants: 9–12 slot configuration and full-slot layout.

Application Scenarios

1. Thermal Power Industry (Primary Application Field)

Steam Turbine Generator Sets: Metal temperature measurement of radial and thrust bearings, stator & rotor winding temperature of generators, lube oil supply temperature, casing steam temperature and ambient temperature. Integrated with turbine TSI systems, it triggers main steam valve trip via interlock upon overtemperature, serving as standard protection hardware for main units in thermal power plants.

2. Gas Turbine & Compressor Units (Petrochemical & Coal Chemical Industries)

Continuous temperature monitoring on bearings, casing process oil and seal gas of large reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors and gas turbines. Over-temperature signals activate anti-surge control or unit shutdown interlocks, widely deployed in refining and LNG facilities.

3. Hydropower Industry

Online temperature monitoring for hydro-generator bearings, guide bearings, stator winding coolant and lubricating oil; measured temperature data is transmitted to plant central DCS for data acquisition and protection interlock logic.

4. General Heavy-Duty Industrial Equipment

Bearing temperature supervision for large fans, pumps and gearboxes. Used together with CSI6500 vibration cards to realize full-parameter condition monitoring of rotating machinery and support predictive maintenance analysis via AMS software platform.

FAQ

Q1: Does A6630 come with configuration software included in standard order?A: Configuration software is not bundled with hardware and needs separate ordering under part number 9510-00027; one software license supports commissioning of multiple A6630 modules. Dedicated RS232 programming cable is a separate purchase item.
Q2: Are the A6630 units for slots 9~12 and general rack slots identical hardware and interchangeable?A: All hardware shares identical A6630 part number with no physical difference. Channel count is determined by installed rack slot position and auto-detected via software. Only one part number is required for procurement with no split ordering.
Q3: External RTD for CJC cold-junction compensation is mandatory for TC measurement; can onboard built-in compensation replace external RTD?A: OEM specification mandates standalone external RTD for CJC in TC mode; no integrated cold-junction compensation circuitry is available. PT100 RTD shall be ordered alongside the card.
Q4: Is A6630 SIL-certified and eligible for SIL2 safety interlock loops?A: Designed per API670 safety standards, standard version is qualified for SIL2 interlock applications. Request SIL certificate at the time of purchase if documentation is required.
Q5: What does flashing green channel LED on front panel indicate?A: Flashing green LED denotes alarm delay period, 15-second power-up lockout or fault pending delay. Steady off green LED indicates open/short sensor fault or channel hardware damage; retrieve detailed fault codes (open/short/overrange) via configuration software.
Q6: Thermocouple readings persistently higher or lower than actual value, troubleshooting steps?
  1. Inspect loose or damaged wiring of CJC compensation RTD (CJC fault is the top cause of TC reading drift);
  2. Verify selected TC type (K/J/E/T) in software matches field installed thermocouple;
  3. Check reversed polarity or damaged TC extension cable.
Q7: 4~20mA output reads correctly under no-load but drifts when loadedA: Maximum rated load resistance for A6630 analog output is 500 Ω; excessive load causes voltage drop and signal distortion. Remedial actions: reduce DCS input load resistance or install signal isolator.
Q8: Brief data dropout after online configuration download, is this a hardware fault?A: Normal factory design; measurement pauses approximately 15 seconds during parameter download before automatic recovery, no hardware malfunction.
Q9: No power LED after hot swap and module fails to power upA: Misaligned backplane pin contact caused short-circuit during insertion. Power down, extract card, align DIN41612 connector and re-seat smoothly; confirm input 24VDC stays within 18~31.2V operating range.
Q10: Inaccurate readings on 3-wire RTD installationA: Uneven resistance among three field leads. Preferred solution: upgrade to 4-wire RTD; if rewiring is unavailable, activate lead resistance compensation via software setup.
Q11: Spurious relay tripping without actual over-temperature threshold breach
  1. Increase alarm hysteresis setting;
  2. Extend programmable alarm delay (adjustable from 0~25.5 s);
  3. Troubleshoot loose sensor wiring causing intermittent signal fluctuation.
