ITS 184X0254M029 flame scanner (cross-referenced as GE 184X0254M029 and RS-FS-9001) is researched, developed and manufactured by ITS Industrial Turbine Services from Austria. Built on mature silicon carbide photodiode sensing technology, it is specially designed for flame condition monitoring on gas turbines.

The device only captures ultraviolet radiation from flames within the 210–380 nm wavelength range and fully suppresses interference from infrared and visible light emitted by high-temperature metal components of the unit. It reliably identifies flame signals without extra filter assemblies. Having undergone over two decades of proven field validation in gas turbine applications, it withstands harsh operating conditions including extreme temperatures, high pressure and high humidity. It outputs a standard 4–20 mA DC current signal that directly interfaces with unit control systems to enable real-time flame monitoring and flame-out interlock protection. When fitted with an optional water cooling assembly, its operational temperature upper limit can be further extended. The complete unit features explosion-proof construction, corrosion resistance and high ingress protection ratings, complying with European and American industrial explosion prevention and environmental compliance standards.

Working Principle

The core sensing element of the detector is a silicon carbide (SiC) photodiode with a fixed spectral response range of 210–380 nm short-to-medium-wave ultraviolet light. It only captures the characteristic ultraviolet radiation released by hydroxyl radicals during flame combustion. The gas turbine casing, high-temperature pipelines and glowing metal components solely emit infrared and visible light, which fall outside the sensitive band of the sensor, eliminating false alarms caused by thermal background interference at the physical level.
Unlike conventional UV probes, SiC material features superior resistance to oil fumes and flue gas penetration. Oil mist and water vapor inside the unit will not significantly attenuate detection signals. The sensor linearly converts UV light intensity into a standard 4–20 mA DC current signal and transmits it to the combustion control system in real time. It can not only detect flame presence or absence to trigger flame-out protection interlocks, but also output continuous flame intensity readings for combustion condition optimization and abnormal combustion early warning. With a response time of less than 20 ms, it meets the requirements for rapid flame-out protection during gas turbine startup and shutdown cycles.
