Functions and Advantages

  1. Safe Communication: Utilizes SafeEthernet to enable redundant and secure data interaction between H41q/H51q systems, ensuring uninterrupted safety links even in case of failures.
  2. Multi-protocol Integration: Supports OPC DA/A&E for connection with SCADA/host computers, and Modbus TCP Slave for direct communication with third-party systems such as PLCs and DCS.
  3. User-friendly Configuration: Allows direct Ethernet connection to ELOP II for programming, replacing traditional serial ports to significantly improve debugging efficiency.
  4. Unified Network: A single network supports safety communication, programming, and data interaction, reducing wiring and maintenance costs.
  5. High Reliability: Features industrial-grade design and a redundant architecture, making it suitable for harsh industrial environments.

Installation Guidelines

1. Pre-installation Preparation

  • Verify that the rack is a 19-inch special rack for the H41q/H51q system, with reserved space of 3HU in height and 4WU in width.
  • Perform power-off operations. Check the module interfaces for any damage and configure jumpers/dip switches according to project requirements.
  • Prepare standard network cables, screwdrivers, and fixing screws.

2. Installation Steps

  • Loosen the fixing screws on the rack panel, align the slot, and insert the F8627X smoothly.
  • Tighten the fixing screws to ensure the module is firmly fixed without looseness.
  • Connect the RJ45 network cable to the switch or host computer. For redundant configurations, connect the dual network ports to independent networks respectively.
  • After power-on, observe the LED indicators: steady on / normal flashing indicates normal operation, while off / abnormal flashing indicates a fault.

3. Wiring and Grounding

  • Use shielded cables for Ethernet wiring and keep them away from power cables to avoid electromagnetic interference.
  • Implement single-point grounding for the system, with only the negative pole (L-) grounded. Do not ground the positive pole (L+) to prevent abnormalities caused by grounding faults.

Maintenance & Diagnostics

1. Routine Maintenance

  • Regularly check the module mounting and network cable connections for tightness, and clean dust from interfaces.
  • Monitor the LED status and record any abnormal alarms.
  • Avoid hot-plugging the module; always disconnect power before maintenance.

2. Fault Diagnosis

  • LED off: Check power supply, rack slot, and whether the module is properly seated.
  • No network connection: Verify IP settings, network cable, switch port, and test link connectivity.
  • Protocol abnormality: Confirm correct configuration of OPC Server / Modbus TCP parameters, slave address, and registers.
  • Programming failure: Upgrade ELOP II to V4.1 or later, check Ethernet connection and access permissions.

3. Replacement & Spare Parts

  • In case of module failure, replace it directly from the hot standby (supports hot-swapping); normal operation can be restored by downloading the configuration after replacement.
  • It is recommended to keep spare modules of the same model on hand to minimize downtime.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between F8627X and the older F8627?A: The F8627X adds OPC A&E and Modbus TCP Slave, supports Ethernet programming, and offers stronger compatibility and expandability. The F8627 is still available and can be selected according to project requirements.
Q2: Is ELOP II V4.1 mandatory?A: Yes. The Ethernet programming function is only supported in ELOP II V4.1 or later; lower versions do not support this feature.
Q3: Does it support redundant configuration?A: Yes. SafeEthernet can be configured as single or redundant to improve communication reliability.
Q4: Which CPUs can be connected?A: Compatible with the new H51q/H41q series CPUs: F8650X/F8652X (safety type) and F8651X/F8653X (non-safety type).
Q5: How many slaves does Modbus TCP support?A: As a Modbus TCP Slave, it can connect to master systems to meet general industrial data exchange requirements. The actual number of slaves depends on project configuration.
Q6: What safety scenarios is it suitable for?A: SIL 2/3 level applications such as Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Burner Management System (BMS), Fire and Gas System (F&G), and Process Safety (SIS).
Q7: Does it support hot-swapping?A: Yes. It complies with HIMA q-series module specifications; hot replacement does not affect system operation.
