ICS TRIPLEX T8111C is the core triple modular redundant (TMR) main processor module for Rockwell Automation Trusted Safety Instrumented System (SIS). Adopting a hardware-implemented fault-tolerant (HIFT) lockstep architecture, it features synchronous computing of three processor channels and 2-out-of-3 voting output, supports bumpless hot standby switching and online hot replacement without program reloading. It is specially designed for critical control applications requiring high safety levels in oil & gas, petrochemical, nuclear power and other industries.

This module supports IEC 61131‑3 programming and integrates functions such as fault diagnosis, time-stamped event logging and IRIG‑B time synchronization. It is certified to IEC 61508 SIL 3. The coated version enhances adaptability to harsh environments, making it suitable for severe industrial conditions including high humidity, high salt spray and dust, effectively extending service life and operational reliability. Q1: What is the difference between T8111C, T8111 and T8110B?A1: T8111C is based on T8111 with added conformal coating for better environmental resistance.T8111 is standard industrial grade; T8110B is an older basic model with lower specifications and capacity.T8111C is software and hardware compatible with T8111 and can be used for direct replacement and upgrade.
Q2: Does hot replacement require system shutdown or program reloading?A2: No. T8111C supports online hot swapping. After removing the faulty module and inserting a new one, synchronization is automatic, with no system shutdown or application program reloading required.
Q3: How do primary and standby processors switch, and will it cause output disturbance?A3: When dual processors are configured, a fault in the primary module will trigger automatic bumpless switchover to the standby unit. Switchover can also be triggered manually by withdrawing the primary module ejector. Output remains in a safe state during switching, with no disturbance or tripping.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • Take proper ESD precautions before installation; do not touch pins and inspect for physical damage.
  • Insert the module into the slot and secure the ejector latch; power-on self-test is complete when front-panel LEDs illuminate.
  • Primary/standby configuration: By default, slot 0 of chassis 1 acts as the master controller, with the standby slot synchronizing automatically.
  • Maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel; hot swapping is permitted only in non-hazardous areas.
  • Record fault codes before performing fault reset, then press the reset button to avoid losing historical fault data.
  • Do not grind or scratch the coating on the coated version, as this may damage its protective properties.
