The ICS TRIPLEX T8292 is a dedicated dual-circuit 5-way miniature circuit breaker 24 V DC power distribution unit for the Rockwell Automation Trusted TMR safety system. Developed for N+1 or 100% fully redundant 24 V DC power supply applications, it supports standard DIN rail mounting.

The unit is equipped with independent circuit monitoring circuits. Local visual indication via on-board LEDs is triggered when a single circuit breaker trips. Passive relay contact outputs are integrated to transmit unified alarm signals for connection to external monitoring systems. Q1: How to tell N+1 and 2N versions apart when purchasing T8292, and do jumpers need to be ordered separately?
A1: Each unit comes pre-installed with an LK-N+1 jumper and defaults to N+1 mode. To switch to full 2N redundancy, simply remove the factory-fitted jumper with no extra spare parts required. One single model supports both topologies, so there is no need to select different versions when placing orders.
Q2: For a complete SIL4 safety system, what is the maximum number of controller racks that one T8292 can power?
A2: In N+1 mode, the total load of one unit shall not exceed 1.25 kW, supporting up to 4 racks; two cascaded T8292 units under N+1 topology can power a maximum of 8 racks. In 2N mode, the single-unit load limit is 750 W for up to 4 racks, and two cascaded units can supply a maximum of 8 racks.
Q3: What is the input voltage range of T8292, and is it compatible with a 28 V DC power supply?
A3: The rated input voltage range is 22 V DC to 28 V DC, with 24 V DC as the standard supply. It can work directly with a 28 V DC power source without a voltage reduction module.
Q4: Must T8292 be used together with T8293? Can it supply power directly to field terminal boards alone?
A4: Direct standalone connection to field FTA terminal boards is not recommended. The T8292 is designed for high-power rack power supply and lacks graded small-current fuse protection. The standard architecture uses T8292 as the upstream power supply feeding T8293, which then distributes power to field devices.
Q5: One red fault LED on the unit stays on constantly, and the MCB trips again several seconds after reset. How to troubleshoot this?
A5: Disconnect all external loads of this circuit and close the MCB alone. If tripping stops, there is a short circuit or overload on the downstream load; inspect cables and terminal boards for short faults. If tripping persists under no-load conditions, the internal circuit of the module is faulty and the module needs replacement.
Q6: One of the two green power indicator lights goes off and the alarm contact opens simultaneously. What fault does this indicate?
A6: The corresponding 0V/V1+ or 0V2/V2+ input power is cut off. Check the output of the upstream T820x power enclosure, loose terminals on power cables and broken wiring. The indicator light will recover automatically after power supply is restored.
Q7: Is full power cut-off required when connecting or disconnecting cables during maintenance? Are there any ESD protection requirements?
A7: It is recommended to cut off both input power supplies before plugging or unplugging terminal wires. The module PCB contains electrostatic-sensitive chips; operators must wear anti-static wristbands and avoid direct contact with exposed metal contacts on the circuit board.
Q8: Will an operating environment with 90% non-condensing humidity affect the long-term operation of T8292?
A8: The product’s specified operating humidity range is 10%–95% non-condensing, allowing stable long-term operation under non-condensing conditions. If condensation may occur on site, cabinet dehumidifiers and temperature control equipment should be added.
