ICS Triplex T8150 Trusted Communication Interface module is a core intelligent communication component of the ICS Triplex Trusted safety control system. It is specifically designed for SIL 3 safety-critical applications, enabling secure and reliable data exchange between the Trusted controller, engineering workstations, third-party devices, and other Trusted systems, while reducing the communication load on the TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) processor. This module provides multi-protocol and multi-medium communication capabilities for the Trusted system, supporting single/dual module redundancy configuration. It serves as the standard communication gateway for safety control systems in high-risk industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation.

Key Features and Benefits
Safe and Reliable Communication Architecture
- Uses a Triple Modular Bus (IMB) interface and performs 2oo3 data voting during communication with the TMR processor, ensuring secure and interference-free communication data.
- All communication transceivers are electrically isolated with transient protection, supporting SIL 3 safety-rated data transmission. Dual-module configuration enables redundant communication paths.
- Built-in watchdog monitors the processor and power status in real time, initiating an automatic safe shutdown in the event of a fault without compromising system safety functions.
Extensive Communication Capabilities
- Supports dual Ethernet + four serial ports, enabling simultaneous operation of multiple industrial protocols to meet multi-device and multi-network access requirements.
- Supports Peer-to-Peer networking, connecting up to 40 Trusted controllers on a single network. A single controller supports up to 8 Peer networks with automatic redundant routing for efficient and reliable data transfer.
- Supports Modbus Master/Slave mode (Master mode requires a T812X processor interface adapter), allowing seamless integration with third-party devices such as DCS, PLC, and HMI.
Intelligence and Usability
- Runs the Trusted operating system independently and autonomously handles communication tasks, significantly reducing TMR processor load and improving overall system performance.
- Front-panel status LEDs (Health, Active, Communication, etc.) provide intuitive module status indication. A built-in command-line diagnostic interface supports remote/local troubleshooting.
- Firmware can be upgraded online via the front-panel port, and configuration parameters can be loaded online without system shutdown.
Flexible System Compatibility
- A single Trusted system supports up to 4 communication interface modules, expanding the number of communication ports and network connectivity.
- Supports SOE (Sequence of Events) over Modbus, enabling fast transmission of a 4000-event buffer to meet safety system event recording requirements.
- Compatible with the full range of Trusted controllers and expansion modules, suitable for applications ranging from small standalone to large distributed safety control systems.
Installation and Maintenance
(I) Installation Procedure
- Pre-installation Inspection: Verify the module is free of physical damage, pins are intact, confirm the model matches the system configuration, and observe ESD precautions (do not touch exposed pins).
- Chassis Preparation: Ensure I/O slots are clean; install the appropriate communication cable (e.g., TC-305-01) or T8153 communication adapter.
- Module Installation: Release the module ejector latches, align the module with the slot and insert firmly, then close the latches to secure the connection.
- Configuration Loading: Download communication configurations (IP address, protocol, port parameters, etc.) via the Engineering Workstation (EWS). The module will complete initialization automatically.
(II) Maintenance Guidelines
- Routine Maintenance: Regularly check module status LEDs to confirm the “Healthy” LED is solid green and communication LEDs flash normally. Verify communication cables are securely connected with no looseness or damage.
- Troubleshooting: Access the command-line interface via the front-panel RS232 diagnostic port (using TC-304-02 maintenance cable) or Telnet (port 23). Execute diagnostic commands (e.g., t for task status, v for configuration view) to identify faults.
- Module Replacement: T8150 does not support hot swapping. Stop the corresponding communication service before replacement. After removing the faulty module, insert the new one; the system automatically loads the configuration and restores communication.
- Firmware Upgrade: Upload the latest firmware via the front-panel diagnostic port. Maintain stable power during the upgrade. The module will reboot automatically after successful upgrade.
